Sterling Silver Horse Pin Pendant Native American Handmade Sam Gray Yeis Journey. Sterling silver horse pin has a removable bail and can also be worn as a pendant. Handmade sterling silver horse pendant by renowned Navajo silversmith Sam Gray is titled, "Yei's Journey" (see story below). Made using the overlay process of silversmithing, the intricate design was hand-carved with a jeweler's saw and soldered to a background sheet of silver. The background was then textured and oxidized to highlight the hand-carved detail and then polished to a shine.

On the side is cornfield and a spider web; the corn is used in traditional ceremonies and the web is a symbol of nature's achieved balance. The chief's headdress is the symbol of the dancing of the storm and lightning.

Navajo silversmith Sam Gray uses heavy gauge sterling silver so the designs are prominent and the reliefs are deep. The designs are hand-cut using a jeweler's saw. The remaining sheet of silver, or negative design, is then soldered to the bottom sheet.

The Medicine Horse pendant is then hand-stamped, the background is textured and oxidized and the silver is polished to a high shine. Oxidation is burned onto the silver and will not chip, fade, or peel. Sam Gray was born in 1964.

His father was from the Zuni Pueblo and his mother was Navajo. He is known for his use of heavy gauge sterling silver and quality stones.
