Vtg Larry Moses Begay Navajo Gaspiete SS Heart Pendant/Pin OOAK 1 3/4 Signed
This stunning heart pendant/pin is hand wrought by renown artist Larry Moses Begay. It contains 27 hand cut and polished natural gaspiete tear-drop shaped petit point stones set in a cluster designed heart. Each stone is set in a hand-cut serrated bezel with small accent silver drops separating each. Delicate twisted wire defines inner heart.
The cluster work is forged on a solid sterling base and a dark antiquing has been lightly applied to add contrast and bring out the stunning green color of the gaspiete clusters. There is a warm patina to the sterling as well. Measurement are 1 3/4" across at widest part and 1 3/4" at longest vertical part.
The back is constructed as both a pin and a pendant. The pendant opening measures approximately 1/4. The pin measures approximately 1 1/2 across with a secure safety catch closure. It weighs 8 grams on my scale. The artist has hallmarked the back with LMB for Larry Moses Begay, and STERLING. This piece is likely from the last quarter of the 20th century. However it has been used lightly and mostly stored. The Begay Dine family has been perfecting cluster jewelry for decades.Larry's work is highly sought after and awarded in most major shows showcasing the best of Native American jewelry. He uses only high quality. Rarely do you find his pieces in gaspiete as natural (not new) gaspiete is scarce and especially valued.
