From a Tucson estate some years ago and remembrance of some earlier 20th century sojourn in Northern Arizona (or found in the pawn case at one of the long gone downtown curio shops here in the Old Pueblo) is this I believe circa 1930's or 1940's Navajo ingot silver butterfly pin brooch with a green turquoise set. The ornament is crafted from hammered and rolled precious metal, an adherence to traditional crafting methods and well rendered stamp work lending visual charisma and a distinctly vintage look.

The skillful shaping of the wings is another nice touch. One can say this falls within the framework of so called Fred Harvey jewelry crafted as a more wearable alternative for visitors. That said, these butterflies comprise great examples of period Navajo folk art. There is "BA" pin engraved "BA" to the back, possibly an old trader coding.

Weight is good for the form at about 6 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with a nice aura of time to the silver surfaces. The lovely turquoise set is tight to the bezel.

All typical and expected signs of period blouse duty simply validate a history. The original trader supplied pin and locking clasp are ready, willing, and able. A look at those pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition - a great one that will do the trick worn about in Santa Fe or wherever you live. Size is about 1 9/16 in.

Vertical and 1 3/16 in. If you prefer historic earlier 20th century Navajo and Pueblo silver jewelry as wearable artworks, or simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you.
