For sale here is a large bird pin/pendant by well known Santo Domingo artist Mary Tafoya. I placed it on a red jasper 17 inc extender bead necklace which can be removed if desired. The bird is 2 3/4 inches wide by 1 3/4 inches tall. The bird is made of turquoise and jet inlay with conus shell.
The combination of colors of the shell and turquoise is very dramatic and really stands out. The large size of the pendants really creates an impact also. Mary Tafoya is an acclaimed artist and is a master at what she does. She uses the methods of her pueblo forebearers but in a unique new way. She makes pictures with her inlay and is really considered a folk art practitioner. Her signature stone and shell bird pieces are all new and different. Here she seems to be depicting a plump blue bird ready for anything.
This pin/pendant with its red jasper bead chain is in excellent, unused condition and is ready to wear. It weighs 2 ounces on my digital, postal scale.
