Old Vintage Zuni Native American Knifewing Man Brooch / Pin. Gorgeous, intricately detailed sterling silver brooch/pin in the image of Knifewing Man. Inlaid in coral, jet, white shell, and turquoise. Inlay sections are bezel - set with sawtooth - edged silver. There are twisted silver wire details on the edges of the wings and tail-feathers.
The figure has the silver earrings and cloud-symbol shaped hat that are typical of Knifewing Man. Signed "R A E":signature is incised or scratched onto back surface, not stamped.
Dimensions: one and 1/8 inch / 3 cm tall, 7/8 inch / 2 cm wide. Most likely made before 1960. In very good condition for age.
No loose, chipped, cracked, pitted, or missing stones. Tarnish is consistent with age. Knifewing Man is a Zuni God of war. He is depicted as human-like with wings and tail-feathers made of sharp flint. OHisweapons are the flint knife, the rainbow, and lightning.
Mountain lions are his warriors.
