This unusual, Navajo handmade blanket pin dates back to the 1950s, when the shadow-box setting style gained its first popularity. Like all "old Pawn", it is unmarked, unsigned. Blanket pins were devised as a way to hold a Navajo woven blanket worn about the shoulders, in place. The two pin clasps are standard, but the use of manufactured findings rather than artisan-crafted pins dates this to the 1950s at the earliest. We collected it in Shiprock, NM in 1990. The use of both Bisbee Turquoise and fine red coral makes this piece really special, along with the detailed feather within the scalloped setting.

It is a real collectors piece, measuring 3 long overall. As is our preference, with all old pawn items, we do not polish the patina off the surface. This is exactly as collected, but you may certainly bring it back to a fine high shine with a jeweler's cloth, easily.
