This early classic Zuni knifewing pin has been beautifully inlaid with turquoise, orange spiny oyster, black onyx and shell. The pin measures 2" tall by 1 3/4" across. The pin weighs 16.6 grams, or. There is a lightly etched old pawn marking on the back.
This pin looks to date to the 1950s or earlier, a time when artists didn't usually sign their work. In the book "Knifewing and Rainbow Man in Zuni Jewelry" by Toshio Sei there are several examples of Knifewings done by the Edaakie family that look similar to this pin. Without a signature it is difficult to say for certain who created this pin. But, it was certainly a master silversmith, the serrated bezel is very finely done and the inlay is very smooth to the touch.
