There is an oval turquoise in the center and lovely hand stampings on the cross. The turquoise is medium blue in color with a few specks of dark matrix. The stone is set in a sawtooth setting with braided sterling silver rope around the setting. The cross is a traditional Navajo design in the fleur de lis style with flares symbolic of lily petals on each of the four corners. There is a large bale and a long pin closure on the back to wear the cross as a pendant or as a pin/brooch.
The cross pin/pendant is signed "AJE" and "sterling". The cross tested as 95% or greater sterling silver on a GXL Next electronic tester.
There are surface scratches on the cross as expected from wear. The turquoise stone seems secure in the setting and has no damage. The cross has the characteristics and beauty of sand cast jewelry. The cross pin/pendant is in excellent pre-owned condition.
The hidden bale is a nice size at 1" long and 1/4" wide and can accommodate necklaces of different sizes. The bale is open on the bottom so it can slide over necklaces which works well with multi-strand necklaces. The pin closure sits just under the bottom of the bale. This is a little awkward when placing the pin on your clothing but works out fine once you get the hang of it. Bale: 1" long x 1/4" at the widest with an open bottom.
Width of cross: 2 3/8. This is a very large and traditional old Navajo cross that can be worn as a pin or pendant. It is classic and timeless. It would be a wonderful addition to any Native American jewelry collection. Other items shown in the photos are for display purposes only.
